Standing at the base of the Holy Trinity Column, you’re enveloped by the scent of fresh pastries wafting from a nearby café. The elaborate baroque details of the column tower above you, casting a long shadow in the afternoon sun. You can hear the distant chatter of visitors mingling with the occasional clink of cups. The air is alive with the sounds of a city in motion, filled with laughter and the rustle of leaves as a light breeze stirs.
As you set off down the narrow streets, you’ll find yourself on 28. října, where the cobblestones give way to a more open square. The energy shifts slightly; the hustle of tourists fades as you pass local shops and the smell of roasted coffee beans fills the air. Continuing onto Havelkova, the terrain becomes a bit uneven, with steep sections that can catch you off guard. You might hear the faint echo of church bells ringing, guiding you toward your destination.
While navigating this route, be mindful of the uneven cobblestones that can be tricky, especially if you’re in a hurry. Traffic can be unpredictable near the intersections, so keep your head up and stay aware of your surroundings. It's also wise to have some small change on hand, as some of the smaller cafes don’t accept cards.
Wear comfortable walking shoes, as you’ll be covering a mix of cobblestone and pavement. Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated, especially on warmer days. A light jacket or umbrella might come in handy if you’re walking during the spring or fall. If you can, set out in the early morning to enjoy the quieter streets and softer light.
The best moment of this walk comes as you reach the Olomouc Orthodox Church, just as the sun begins to set. The warm hues of the sky reflect off the ornate architecture, and the air is filled with the scent of blooming lilacs from a nearby garden. You’ll find a moment of peace as you take it all in, the colors and scents blending into a memory that lingers long after you’ve left.
