Standing at Anshun Bridge, the sound of water gently flowing beneath me mixes with the faint chatter of locals enjoying tea nearby. The air is rich with the scent of street food - spicy hot pot and grilled skewers waft towards me. I take a moment to admire the intricate architecture of the bridge, with its arched rooftops and vibrant red lanterns glistening in the sunlight.
As I set off, the path along the river is lined with trees, their leaves rustling softly in the breeze. You’ll walk through the lively Jinjiang District, where the terrain flattens out, and the sounds shift from tranquil nature to the hum of urban life. The buildings become taller and more modern, but as you approach the bustling Tianfu Square, the energy picks up. The transition from the serene riverside to the lively square is marked by an array of shops and street vendors, their colorful wares catching your eye.
Keep an eye out for the uneven cobblestones as you navigate the streets; they can be tricky underfoot. Traffic can be heavy in certain areas, so be cautious when crossing roads. Language barriers might pop up when you’re trying to ask for directions, so it’s handy to have a translation app on your phone. Pay attention to your belongings, especially in crowded spots where pickpockets could be lurking.
Wear comfortable shoes since you’ll be walking nearly 4.2 kilometers. Bring water to stay hydrated, particularly if you're walking in the afternoon sun. If it’s rainy season, an umbrella or a light rain jacket will come in handy. Morning or late afternoon is the best time to enjoy this route, as the temperatures are milder and the light is softer.
The best moment of this walk comes just after you pass Tianfu Square and approach the Temple of Marquis Wu. As the sun dips low in the sky, the temple’s intricate carvings and the surrounding gardens are bathed in a warm golden glow. The air cools, and the scent of incense wafts through the temple grounds, inviting you to pause and soak it all in.
